Features on Future Smartphones That Will Disappear
Changeable batteries, headphone jacks, and chargers have all been removed from telephones on a regular basis. This is done either to replace them with better alternatives or to help them achieve their well-planned business goals.
Aside from the things we’ve already lost, we may lose a few more in the near future. In this essay, four of these elements will be examined, as well as how their absence impacts you as a consumer. 1. Fingerprint scanners

3. SIM card slots
With Apple’s current 2018 iPhone lineup having dual-SIM support via eSIM, Android smartphone makers are expected to follow Apple’s lead and remove physical SIM altogether. In India, only Reliance Jio and Airtel presently support eSIM, but other telecom companies are anticipated to follow suit in the coming months.
4. Front Camera Cutout
Similarly to how we replaced the home button with on-screen controls, the front camera will be replaced with an under-display alternative. The good news is that this technology has already been seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but it isn’t quite there yet.
After all, if the camera is buried beneath the screen, it will be unable to capture as much light, resulting in poor image quality. If you take a lot of selfies, under-display front cameras aren’t a good choice. For the time being, at least. It will most likely take another two or three generations for technology to catch up to standard front cameras.
5. Wired Charging Port Features on Future Smartphones
Apple is expected to be the first to phase away the wired charging connector in order to promote its MagSafe chargers. With each iteration of the technology, it is becoming easier to promote wireless charging.

Unless these two major difficulties are addressed, wired charging will remain the standard. Although certain phones, like the OnePlus 10 Pro, support quick wireless charging, the technology is still in its early stages.
Furthermore, a number of companies have proven true wireless charging, or Air Charging as Xiaomi calls it. Although the concept is groundbreaking, the technology is inefficient even when compared to normal wireless charging.
That’s why we don’t expect the wired charging connector to be phased out very soon, but three years seems reasonable for these alternatives to mature. However, you can expect all other players to follow Apple’s lead if the port is removed sooner rather than later.
6. Physical Buttons
There’s a reason we haven’t completely abandoned physical volume and power buttons: they’re quite dependable. Their role is simple but crucial, and replacing them with on-screen controls would be a hazardous move.
Volume changes can occur, for example, if the on-screen volume buttons fail or are accidentally pressed in your pocket. And you don’t want to be listening to music with your headphones on because that small mishap will be terrifying and, in extreme cases, may result in temporary hearing loss.

This problem is not insurmountable; you can use pressure-sensitive panels and programme the software to ignore accidental touches. We’ve already seen a lot of prototypes with this design, so there’s a good probability the technology will be available in four years for popular phones.
7. Free Back Cover and Other Extras Features on Future Smartphones
This one is a tad petty, but it’s worth mentioning nonetheless. Following in the footsteps of chargers and earbuds, it looks that the free TPU back cover that comes with so many Android phones is being phased away as well. This is unfortunate because removing even another bonus item makes the unwrapping experience even more unpleasant.
You’d be justified in being apprehensive about the day when you open the package and discover only the phone. No charger, earbuds, back cover, SIM ejector tool, wire, or anything else was included. It’s just a user manual, which no one ever reads in the first place. Purchase of a new phone will be a considerably less exciting experience as a result of the cuts.
8. MicroSD card slots might disappear completely
External microSD cards are well known to have an impact on smartphone performance. As a result, with smartphone manufacturers offering internal storage up to 512GB, the microSD card may become obsolete in the future.

Charging cords and adapters may soon be obsolete as wireless charging gains hold, with cars supplying wireless charging mats inside the cabin. In the future, people may not need to carry smartphone chargers and instead rely on public wireless hotspots.

Manufacturers of smartphones may soon incorporate a new multi-functional power/wake button that also functions as a volume button.
11. With foldable smartphones in works, traditional bar form factor may disappear
We may be entering the foldable smartphone era soon, with companies like Samsung, LG, and Xiaomi rumoured to be working on them. Cellphones with traditional rectangular bar shapes are being phased out in favour of foldable phones.
12. In-display speaker may also replace the traditional earpiece in phones
You may not need to hold your phone upright and place the earpiece over your ears while speaking on the phone if it has an in-display speaker. Smartphones without an earpiece could be released in the future, and with an on-display speaker, you can take calls and listen to the other person from any part of the screen.
