In brief, the Galaxy S22 series and Tab S8 will receive OS updates that will bring them up to Android 16.

The software support upgrade, however, is only available for flagship phones. This means that only the Galaxy S and foldable Z series will receive extended support, while the Galaxy A and M phones would only receive three years of upgrades.

However, even among flagship phones, extended support will not be available until the S21 series. Unfortunately, the S20 and other previous flagships will be excluded from the new promise.

Samsung will provide extended software support for the following phones:

  • Galaxy S21 phones
  • Galaxy Tab S8 series
  • Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3
