WhatsApp, a service owned by Meta, released a plethora of new features and updates in 2021. Users are eagerly awaiting the future additions. WhatsApp is developing a variety of new features to improve its consumers’ chatting experience.
Some of these new features are currently being tested in the beta version of the app, while others are still under development. According to WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, the app is working on a new feature that will display a sender’s profile pic in the notification when an iOS user receives a message.
Users may look forward to new WhatsApp features that will enhance their texting experience.
WhatsApp upcoming features 2023
1. Display profile photo in notifications
The instant-messaging programme is rumoured to be working on a new feature that will display the user’s profile picture in iOS system notifications when a user receives a new message from friends or a group.
2. Hide your ‘last seen’ from specific contacts
WhatsApp is also testing a much-needed feature that would allow users to hide their ‘last seen’ status from only select contacts. We’d like to point out that WhatsApp already has a function that allows you to hide a user’s last saw status from their contacts. However, one disadvantage of this feature is that users cannot examine their contacts’ ‘last seen’ status.
Thanks to the new last seen functionality, users can hide their last seen details from select contacts they don’t want to see while still checking the ‘last seen’ status of everyone else in their contacts. According to rumours, the feature is already available in the app’s test version and will be made available soon.
3. No time limit for deleting sent messages
Users can currently delete messages on WhatsApp for up to 4,096 seconds (68 minutes and 16 seconds) after they have been sent. According to current rumours, the meta-owned app is testing a new feature in a beta version that will permanently remove this restriction.
Using the new feature, users will be able to remove transmitted messages from any point in the past. There is no current timetable for when this functionality will be available.
4. WhatsApp Community feature
WhatsApp is said to be working on a new community feature similar to Discord groups and channels. This is not the same as WhatsApp’s existing groups feature. With this new feature, group administrators will have greater control over the app’s many functionalities. Administrators can create up to ten groups inside a community and send messages to all of them at the same time. The community chats will be encrypted from start to finish. It’s conceivable that the feature will be added shortly.
5. WhatsApp logout
According to WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a new logout option to replace the ‘Delete Account’ button. Users will be able to log out of their WhatsApp accounts from their smartphones in the same way that they do on Facebook and other social networking apps. With the new logout option, users may be able to access their accounts on multiple devices at the same time.
The feature was spotted recently in WhatsApp’s new beta version. The WhatsApp logout feature is likely to be made available to both iOS and Android users in the near future.
6. Instagram Reels on WhatsApp
WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to view Instagram Reels directly within the messaging app. According to sources, this is part of WhatsApp’s goal of integrating with other Facebook-owned apps.
7. Read later
WhatsApp may soon improve the Archived Chats feature, allowing you to read them later. Users will not receive notifications for messages received from a chat that have been moved to the read later section.
The feature will also include a’vacation mode,’ which will make’read later’ chats behave similarly to archived chats in the current stable version. Users can change settings by clicking the edit button. WhatsApp users can unarchive multiple conversations at once.
8. WhatsApp Insurance
WhatsApp users in India will soon be able to purchase insurance through the app. The instant-messaging app intends to offer health insurance and micro-pension products on its messaging platform in India through partnerships with regulated financial services companies.
WhatsApp will initially market SBI General sachet-health insurance and HDFC Pension products through its platform.
9. Message reactions
WhatsApp users, like those on Instagram and Facebook, will soon be able to respond to messages with photographs. WABetaInfo claims to have spotted a preview of the functionality. The meesage reaction feature will allow users to respond to a message with a total of six emojis.
Message reactions are available in both individual and group chat threads. Users can also enable or disable message reaction notifications by selecting the ‘Reaction Alerts’ option.
10. Edit receipts while sharing media
Users will soon be able to select new receivers before sharing content on WhatsApp.
